About Robert James Stove
I’m an organist and (ahem) musicologist. Born in Sydney, I moved to Melbourne in 2001.
For most of the last two decades, COVID permitting, I’ve played the
organ regularly in churches. In 2017 I completed my BMus at Monash
University. Four years later I was awarded a PhD in musicology at the
Sydney Conservatorium.
My book César Franck: His Life and Times was the first study in
English of this great composer in nearly four decades. It was
published in 2012 by Scarecrow Press, Lanham, Maryland. Most of
my musical compositions are published by Wirripang, of Wollongong,
New South Wales. These are predominantly choral though with the
occasional solo vocal work and organ work also.
The first CD which I issued was a collection of baroque organ music
entitled The Gates of Vienna. It was released in July 2018 on the Ars
Organi label. Then came (likewise on Ars Organi) Pax Britannica
(2019), devoted to composers from Victorian and Edwardian Britain;
French Romantic Church Music (2021), which is adequately described
by its title; and most recently – as of June 2022 – Undertones of War.
Feel free to mosey around the site, which is very much a work-in-
progress.
